PSYCHOBIOLOGICAL PARADIGM IN PSYCHOLOGY OF INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCES
Moderators:Petar Čolović i Kristina Ranđelović
Psychobiological paradigm within the psychology of individual differences comprises conceptual frameworks and metholological approaches which are based on the assumption of crucial relevance of physiological factors for the structural and procedural features of personality traits and cognitive abilities. Besides the topics which address the structure of the physiologically based dimensions of individual differences, some of the most current issues concern the effects of environmental (particularly situational) and genetic factors on phenotypic manifestations of personality traits and abilities. Although psychobiological paradigm is not a singular theoretical approach, few studies have addressed its conceptual structure and its position within personality psychology. Four studies will be presented at this symposium, the first one – an experimental study - addressing the effects of situational and dispositional factors on judgmental biases and social anxiety, the second focusing on the structure of the behavioral activation system, the third one examining the problem of genetic and environmental factors of cognitive functions and personality traits, and the fourth attempting to gain insight into the conceptual structure of the field and to highlight the most relevant topics and the most influential authors. The main aim of the symposium is to address some of the most current issues in the psychology of individual differences, including the issues of the conceptual unity of the psychobiological paradigm and the possible effects of other research traditions.
